This year will be an important year for Canberra and I would like to thank my ACT Labor colleagues, especially the Chief Minister, for their support as I become an ACT Minister for the first time.
I am very excited about playing a bigger role in the ACT Government and having the chance to promote growth, opportunity and fairness in our community.
I am grateful to the people of Molonglo for their continued support, and I look forward to recontesting in the new northern electorate of Yerrabi later this year.
I also look forward to continuing to work with the people of Gungahlin and representing their interests in Cabinet.
As a resident of one of Canberra’s outer regions, I will continue to work to ensure that we strengthen our suburbs, already some of the best suburbs in the world to live in. I will also bring a special focus to engaging with Canberra families, particularly mums, across the Territory. As a mother of school-age children, how ACT Government services and facilities meet the needs of parents was one of the things that drove me to stand for public office in the first place.
Canberra is growing. As a minister I want to work with our community to make our city more vibrant, connected and healthy. And I’m proud to be part of the ACT Labor team, which has a true vision for Canberra’s future.
I would also like to acknowledge Joy Burch’s considerable and passionate contribution as a minister and as an MLA for Tuggeranong. Her leadership of the ACT’s NDIS trial site, her focus on early childhood education, parental engagement and her commitment to bringing together all education sectors are just some of her great achievements. Tuggeranong will benefit greatly from her advocacy and I’m looking forward to continuing to work with her.
