Gungahlin stands to benefit from a new plan outlined by the Chief Minister that will set aside procurement funding for local business that can find innovative solutions for government.

Member for Molonglo and Gungahlin Meegan Fitzharris said the Small Business Research Partnerships Program was a smart way to help local entrepreneurs get access to government contracts.

“This program will not only help the ACT Government deliver smarter solutions for problems as they arise, but it will encourage local businesses to grow and innovate.

“As one of Canberra’s fastest growing regions with access to the NBN, Gungahlin has a lot of small businesses and entrepreneurs who are looking to build their businesses and get access to new markets and opportunities.

“This program will help diversify our economy and encourage local Gungahlin businesses to work with government in a constructive way.”

Ms Fitzharris said as someone who has run a business from home, she knows how tough it can be to compete against bigger organisations.

“I want to encourage Gungahlin’s local businesses to grow, and the ACT Government is helping achieve that by putting programs in place that focus on business development.

“This program will also highlight to the rest of the nation that Canberra is more than just a public service town – we also have a diverse and enthusiastic business community that can do anything,” said Ms Fitzharris.
